Inlet Guide Vane Axial Compressor

Each guide vane should have two sharp edges that behave alternately as leading and trailing edges. It is reasonable to adopt, as design conditions, inlet shock-free flow at the leading edges of the blades of both guide vane rows. If potential flow is assumed, this means that the flow velocity is to remain finite at the sharp leading edges. Considering this, together with Kutta condition at the trailing edges, we come to the conclusion that, in ideal design conditions, the flow pattern about one guide vane row is exactly the mirror image, with respect to the y-axis, of the flow about the other guide vane row, and that the flow leaves the turbine without swirl.

A guide vane axially pivot ably coupled to a radically outwardly disposed flow-limiting wall and to a radically inwardly disposed inner ring of the turbo machine; and a trailing edge gap being formed between an upper trailing edge of the guide vane and the flow-limiting wall and/or between a lower trailing edge of the guide vane and the inner ring; the upper trailing edge and/or the lower trailing edge of the guide vane having at least one air outlet opening for an air outflow for forming an air curtain for at least partially sealing the trailing edge gap in the area of the upper trailing edge and/or the lower trailing edge in the area of the lower trailing edge. Located at the compressor inlet, these vanes change the direction of the velocity entering the first-stage impeller. By changing the angle at which these vanes direct the flow at the impeller, the shape of the head capacity curve can be changed.
As more velocity change is added to the inlet gas, the performance curve steepens with very little efficiency loss. Extreme changes in process conditions cannot be accommodated. Q1: Why are there so many cracks?
